| Ben Goldman always admired the costumed crime-fighters of his youth, until one fateful battle between famed hero Steel Angel and the evil Dr. Skull. Skull had built a giant robotic skeleton in an attempt to extort ransom from the city, but Steel Angel, piloting the giant robot he called the Hand of God, intervened, destroying the robotic skeleton by bashing it to pieces against nearby buildings. Young Ben's father, Gordon, died in the catastrophe, and Ben swore that he would make sure that in the future criminals would face justice without harm to innocent civilians; he would join the New Canada Police.
